CARICOM REGIONAL TASK FORCE ON CRIME AND SECURITY (CRTFCS)

The Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) at its Twenty Second Meeting held in Nassau, The Bahamas in 2001, established a Regional Task Force on Crime and Security to examine the major causes of crime, and to recommend approaches to deal with inter-related problems, illicit drugs and firearms, as well as terrorism.

The Task Force comprised representatives from each of the CARICOM Member States, the Regional Security System (RSS), University of the West Indies (UWI), the Caribbean Customs Law Enforcement Council (CCLEC), the Association of Caribbean Commissioners of Police (ACCP) and the Caribbean Financial Action Task Force (CFATF).

The Task Force made over one hundred (100) recommendations which provided a blueprint for the Regional Action Agenda to be advanced in the area of crime and security.  The Task Force also provided recommendations for a new regional framework for the development and management of crime and security issues.

The establishment of the management framework with IMPACS as the nerve centre enables continuity in the implementation of the regional crime and security agenda.
