The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Implementation Agency for Crime and Security (IMPACS), in partnership with the Office of the Attorney General of Dominica, is hosting a three-day virtual Cyber Hygiene and Awareness Training programme tailored for the staff of the Attorney General’s Office.

The programme, which is being conducted from 9-11 September 2026, is designed to build regional cyber resilience. The initiative equips public sector professionals with practical knowledge to identify cyber threats, secure sensitive legal and governmental communications and respond swiftly to security incidents.

The Honourable Levi Peter, Attorney General, Dominica, stated that their legal chambers are exposed to numerous digital sources and remain highly vulnerable to cyber risks if staff are not sufficiently knowledgeable.

"Protecting our systems against corruption is essential and this interactive training directly addresses key operational concerns, from identifying sophisticated phishing attempts to securing devices while travelling", he explained.

The training programme comes at a critical juncture as cyber threats across the Caribbean Region grow in frequency and sophistication. Public sector agencies increasingly face complex risks, including email phishing, account compromises, social engineering tactics and emerging security challenges related to artificial intelligence (AI).

Mr. Dale Joseph, Chief Analyst, Cyber, CARICOM IMPACS, emphasised that cyber security is a collective responsibility across all levels of government. "Cyber security is no longer solely the responsibility of IT departments. It is a shared duty that involves every individual using a computer, mobile device or online service. For the Attorney General’s Office, protecting confidential legal processes and national information is both an operational necessity and a public duty", he said.

The Cyber Hygiene and Awareness Training programme delivers hands-on guidance on critical digital safety topics, including phishing detection, password and account security, social engineering, social media safety, mobile device and travel security, financial scam prevention, prompt incident reporting and the safe, responsible use of AI.

Participants engage in interactive learning experiences featuring practical exercises, real-world case studies, quizzes and scenario-based activities designed to build actionable cyber habits applicable both in the workplace and at home. Furthermore, this initiative directly supports the CARICOM Cyber Security and Cybercrime Action Plan (CCSCAP) by advancing regional priorities in public awareness, capacity building and the development of resilient digital infrastructures.

CARICOM IMPACS and the Government of Dominica continue to strengthen national security and foster a safer, more resilient digital Caribbean through the establishment of a strong culture of cyber awareness among public officers.
