CARICOM IMPACS is advising that there are malicious and fake links, scams and cyber security threats that have emerged in connection with Hurricane Melissa.
Videos and images falsely depicting hurricane damage have circulated widely. Many were created using OpenAI's Sora app and shared on social media platforms to mislead the public.
Additionally, more than 28 fake domains mimicking Jamaica’s official relief portal have been identified so far. These websites were designed to divert funds from genuine disaster relief efforts.
CARICOM IMPACS recommends that the public:
- Use only verified domains like https://supportjamaica.gov.jm
- Avoid clicking unsolicited links in emails or social media.
- Report suspicious sites to Jamaica.cirt@opm.gov.tt
