In an effort to fortify its defences against global digital threats, Cricket West Indies (CWI) has partnered with the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Implementation Agency for Crime and Security (IMPACS) to deliver a two-day Cyber Security Awareness Training initiative to all its staff and players.

The comprehensive training is being conducted virtually from 16 - 17 October 2025, and delivered by the specialised Cyber Fusion Unit (CFU) of CARICOM IMPACS, underscoring its regional commitment to resource sharing, capacity building and enhancing resilience against digital threats.

This proactive measure, spearheaded by CWI, is a direct response to the ever-evolving landscape of global cybercrime and builds on the proven success of the coordinated regional security framework established during the Men's T20 2024 World Cup. It is the cornerstone of CWI’s commitment to safeguarding its digital and physical assets, ensuring the continuity of its operations, and upholding the integrity of the regional sporting institution.

Mr. Dale Joseph, Chief Analyst, Cyber, CARICOM IMPACS, welcomed the initiative and noted that this collaboration with CWI was a model of regional integration, demonstrating that security transcends traditional boundaries. “With CARICOM IMPACS’ expertise, we are directly contributing to the digital resilience of a vital regional institution. Equipping CWI’s staff and players with cyber security awareness is a crucial step in safeguarding the integrity of our shared Caribbean assets against sophisticated global threats”, he explained.

Ms. Onika Martin-Bird, Human Resources Director, CWI, said this training programme was an investment in CWI’s staff, infrastructure and the long-term integrity of West Indies cricket. “We are committed to making cyber security part of our organisational culture. Whether on the field or behind the scenes, excellence requires preparation. This collaboration with CARICOM IMPACS ensures that our teams, on and off the pitch, are equipped to perform at the highest level. Cyber security is now a critical part of how we operate as a modern sporting body”, she added.

The training modules, tailored for both administrative staff and players, are designed to build foundational capacity across CWI, covering critical areas such as phishing prevention, data protection, secure remote work practices and the safe use of digital platforms among other critical areas.
