The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Implementation Agency for Crime and Security (IMPACS) hosted a high-level meeting with representatives from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) Trinidad and Tobago Office, marking a key step toward deepening regional collaboration in the fight against organised crime.

At the centre of the discussions, which was held on 8 July 2025, was the ‘One Safe Caribbean’ initiative - a strategic framework aimed at enhancing public safety and resilience across the Region. The meeting provided a platform for both entities to explore opportunities for alignment, knowledge-sharing and joint action that will support regional efforts to combat transnational crime and improve citizen security.

The engagement also served as a valuable opportunity for the IDB team to gain first-hand insights into the operational priorities and scope of work undertaken by CARICOM IMPACS. Through comprehensive dialogue, both teams identified several areas of convergence that could yield mutual benefits, particularly in strengthening institutional capacity, leveraging data for decision-making and supporting evidence-based policy development.

CARICOM IMPACS underscored the importance of building strategic alliances with development partners such as the IDB to accelerate progress toward a safer, more secure Caribbean. The synergy between the two organisations holds great promise for addressing the complex and evolving security challenges facing the Region, including illicit trafficking, gang violence and cybercrime.

The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to advance discussions and explore concrete areas for collaboration under the ‘One Safe Caribbean’ framework, with a view to delivering sustainable, impactful outcomes that contribute to the safety and stability of the Caribbean.
